Along the east shore of beautiful Lake Como, in the charming medieval town of Bellano, Italy, lies an impressive industrial complex, the Ex-Cotonificio Cantoni; a former cotton mill from 1898.

Once powered by the kinetic energy of the Orrido gorge’s racing water, this now historic landmark served as the economic engine of the region for more than a century.

After being decommissioned in 2004, the injection of the CC-Bellano promises to revitalize the town’s dormant giant by transforming it into a world-class museum of national and international importance. When the Cotonificio Cantoni will exchange its ‘CC’ initials for Cultural Center it is poised to catapult the town's profile as the region's cultural beacon.

A contemporary intervention unifies the industrial tri-part structure. It is expressed in a singular, abstract volume that forms a bold, yet respectful counterpart to its historical host; the stark contrast in both metallic material and planar geometry preserves the Landmark’s autonomy while embracing its new role to future-proof this magnificent building for the 21st century.

Together with its stunning surroundings and synergetic Hotel and Wellness program, the complex becomes an inspiring destination for visitors to enjoy art, nurture the mind and nourish the body.

Hotel guests can enjoy the Museum at all times, while the Hotel turns its guestrooms into mini galleries, showcasing the museum’s unique art prints and objects. The shared auditorium/grand café/restaurant facilities turn the CC-Bellano into a cultural forum for symposia, lectures, screenings and celebrations.

The top of the parking building is transformed into a lush roof park that serves as an extended amenity to the Hotel’s Wellness program and offers outdoor quality space for sunset yoga sessions, jogging, exercising or simply a leisurely stroll.
